How much better than Miss Teen South Carolina are we actually?

People from all over the world tease that Americans suck at geography. One can point to Miss South Carolina as (hot) example of our failures as a nation. I thought, considering my International Relations major at college, I was a little better. Then, two days ago, as I was flying from a random state to New York City, I realized that I had NO IDEA where I was over my own country. I promptly turned to my uninteresting looking neighbor and asked if he knew where he was. Without a moments hesitation, the man responded in a thick British accent “Right near Lake Michigan, Cheers!” How did this foreign douche bag know where we were? Cheers, Asshole!

Like, such as, South Africa

I was disappointed in myself but not shocked. Luckily for most of us, the world cup about to become in full swing and I’m sure most Americans will need to consult a map, or become the subject of awkwardness, like this lady when she tried to book a flight to capetown.

I got a call from a woman who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information when she interrupted me with “I’m not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts. “Without trying to make her look like the stupid one, I calmly explained, “Capecod is in Massachusetts, Capetown is in Africa.” Her response … click.

Check out Why Americans Should Never Be Allowed To Travel for more ridiculousness.

I have no idea how Miss teen South Carolina managed to come up with South Africa as one of her places without maps that need our help with geography. Regardless, lets not forget about the World Cup taking place in South Africa. Maybe she knows where that is, but probably not.

Even with people like Miss Teen South Carolina lacking basic education, the The United States did however purchase the most tickets out of any other nation for the World Cup, at a whopping 132,000. Suck on those stats England!
